Ink, pluralism and the Pope's visit to Sapienza

Di fronte all'assurda situazione creatasi a seguito del mancato intervento di Benedetto XVI all'Università "La Sapienza" , la redazione di Inchiostro esprime tutta la solidarietà ai 67 professori attaccati duramente (vedi il paradossale blog http://www.pluralisti.blogspot.com ) per aver espresso la propria contrarietà alla visita del Pontefice .

Un chiarimento per tutti coloro che vogliono trarre da questa iniziativa conclusioni affrettate e imprecise: non si tratta di lodare i docenti in questione per aver impedito l'intervento del Papa ma, piuttosto, si tratta di difendere un principio che dovrebbe essere inalienabile - il pluralismo - ma che invece rischia di essere intaccato e messo in disparte.

Come studenti , come giornalisti, come cittadini ci schieriamo in difesa della pluralità di opinioni, idee, credi e convinzioni. E il cosiddetto "buonismo", stavolta, non c'entra proprio nulla.

Ecco il nostro pensiero, inviato ai 67 docenti:

Stimati docenti,

La redazione di Inchiostro, il giornale degli studenti dell’Università di Pavia, esprime la massima solidarietà a voi tutti per gli avvenimenti di questi giorni che vi hanno resi protagonisti involontari di una vicenda davvero sconsolante.

Come giornale student tried in our small, strongly defend the concept that in our country seems so strange to be ever more unknown: pluralism.

We believe that every individual, regardless of role or position he occupies, possesses the inalienable right to express their opinions, their ideas, their beliefs.

Although many of us do not personally share the ideas of which the head of the Catholic Church is able to create, we do not believe that this should be put into play the basic principles of tolerance and pluralism, the cornerstones of our society democratic, based on the protection of freedom.

For the same reason we believe deeply that your dissent to the intervention of Pope Benedict XVI at the University "La Sapienza" of Rome, expressed with absolute civil and correct, it is equally valid and just, in accordance with the principles listed above.

We do not believe however that neither civil nor just your opinion to be manipulated by the media, thus opening a modern "witch hunt" based on the violation of an inalienable right.
